Streaming April 29th 2008

6 months since the last update to my blog. Has anything changed or worth mentioning during this period of time? There certainly is. I have tried to post many times before: Logged on blogger, linked to this editing page, and was then inevitably distracted by something else. Since November 2008, I finished last semester, spent times in *the city* before coming back to Saint Louis on a road trip with good friends from binghamton. Then the usual routine: taking classes (most of them are interesting though I complained), hanging out at the co-op to enjoy some full-blown college fun, being lazy in the morning and insomnia at night. Many little things, but do they all work towards a common goal?

One thing I thoguht worth mentioning was related to public speaking. On December 4th, 2008, I went to an event called "idea bounce" to do and elevator pitch for my idea in no longer than 2 minutes. My idea was called *wash u world talks*, a video-conferencing platform/ event series that link our students with people in other particular parts of the world, so that we can communicate without the voluntary/ involuntary biases from the mass media. I have always been confident on my public speaking. The earliest proof was that back in high school in Beijing me and my good friend Dingfan, both trivia junkies, went to participated in a nationally-broadcasted quiz show similar to jeopardy. We were on a team combating with three other teams, facing about a hundred people in the studio and much more in front of the TV. Dingfan got nervous and would give an answer of a 7-letter-word after they told us it was 3 letters. To the contrary I was calm, did my best, and managed to calm him down before he screw up big time. We got second place after all, not bad eh? After all these year, I still from time to time blaming him for his nervousness at that time. And eventually, this nervousness mysteriously fall on to my shoulder during this december 4th Idea Bounce. I stood in from of a hundred people, spot light on my face, trying to remember the speech I wrote 2 hours prior to the event but could not think of anything. Images in front of my eyes starts to glistering and burning then melted. I tried to move my body rhythmically to shake off my bad luck but it was too late. In 2 minutes I managed to say 2 sentences and then was told to leave.

Biggest embarrassment ever in my life! (??) It's as if I was caught unexpectedly stading naked in front of everyone, had to make a few nervous smiles and waving goodbye. After the show, I went to an empty classroom to practice my speech in disbelief. Of course I didn't get it through! It was too long for 2 minutes, and I didn't have enough time to familiarize it, let along memorizing it. Upon returning home, I immediately past my speech draft on to my door so it has been the first thing I see in the morning for the past 6 months. Until I got a chance again on April 2nd, 2009, delivered a perfect speech in front of another crowd of people. This time, I was very assuring, because I knew exactly what I was doing.
